Grand Blanc, MI's Worst Road Will Finally Be Fixed Next Year

Few paved roads in the greater Flint, Michigan area make you think dirt would be a better option than pavement.

There's one road in Grand Blanc where most residents and drivers would tell you gravel would probably be smoother.

If you don't live in Grand Blanc, maybe you remember Miller Road connecting to Ballenger Highway, back in the day? It felt like you were driving on the lunar surface.

There's hope for Grand Blanc drivers in 2024.

While Grand Blanc Road was being widened earlier this year, many of us had to take a detour to Cook road to go east.

When you get to Embury Road, on Cook, everything changes through the neighborhood if you continue eastbound.

All the way to Holly Road, Cook feels like a test track for one of the Big Three automakers.

The last time it was resurfaced was around 2011.

Fast forward to present day and it's crumbling.

To be fair, the road wasn't built the way most are engineered today. It's basically asphalt on top of dirt.

Cook Road in Grand Blanc to be Rehabilitated in 2024

We spoke with Kylie Dontje, Genesee County Road Commission Communication Coordinator, to see what projects have been set for 2024.

While all 2024 construction plans are not set for the entire county, a few federal and state funded projects have been approved.

Those plans include the nearly mile-long section of Cook Road from Embury all the way to Holly Road in 2024.

Folks in those neighborhoods are more than ready.

Looking Back at the Last Days of Beloved Playland in Flint, MI

Playland originally started in Flint off Pasadena. Then, in the early 1980s moved toward Grand Blanc at 5290 Dort Hwy in Flint right behind Grand Blanc Township Offices. It was closed for good in 2018.
