Fenton and Baldwin Roads Roundabout Could Open Weeks Ahead of Schedule

If you live in Mundy, Grand Blanc or Fenton Townships, the traffic nightmare is almost over.

When Will the Fenton-Baldwin Roundabout Open?

The Genesee County Road Commission has been working on a new roundabout at Fenton and Baldwin Roads. Officials have confirmed to us that the project is moving along and should be open by Mid-August. The project deadline is September, but there have been no construction delays, so the middle of August is still their goal.

The project started earlier this year and has caused frustration for motorists because of the detour in place. Area residents had to deal with another detour in the same area last year when they replaced the bridge on Baldwin just east of Fenton Road. But for that project, only Baldwin Road was closed.

The Long Detour Between Fenton and Grand Blanc

In this case, the entire intersection is closed, which means a several mile detour. With no other option to easily get from Fenton to Grand Blanc, traffic is being rerouted from Fenton Road to Thompson, then Torrey Road to Grand Blanc Road, and finally Dort Highway.

That's more than 10-miles going one way to get around the closure, because there are no roads that connect Fenton and Grand Blanc south of Baldwin Road. Commuters have had to add at least 15 to 20 minutes to their drive time to get around the construction. So if you've been waiting for some relief behind the wheel, we're just a few weeks away.
