After a long and inconvenient winter and spring detour, Baldwin Road Bridge in Grand Blanc Township has officially reopened to traffic. Located just east of Fenton Road, the bridge had been closed for months due to a major construction project that completely shut down the roadway. But as of midday on Tuesday, July 9, 2025, traffic is once again flowing across the bridge, marking the end of a frustrating chapter for local drivers.

Months of Traffic Frustration From the Closure on Baldwin Road

Construction began in the middle of winter on February 24th, forcing drivers to take long detours to get between Fenton and Grand Blanc. The closure affected both local commuters and regional traffic, especially those relying on Baldwin Road as a main east-west thoroughfare.

The official detour was extensive. Eastbound Baldwin traffic was directed north two miles to Grand Blanc Road, then east to Dort Highway. From there, drivers encountered three separate roundabouts before heading south for another two miles to rejoin Baldwin Road—a time-consuming loop that frustrated many.

Not everyone followed the official detour. Some savvy drivers used the paved portion of Cook Road in Grand Blanc Township to bypass the construction zone more quickly. Unfortunately, drivers from Fenton Township or southern Mundy Township didn’t have easy alternatives and were forced to go several miles out of their way.

Baldwin Road Bridge Reopens—But Confusion Lingers for Motorists

Although the bridge is now open, confusion still remains. As of the morning of July 10, several detour signs and “Bridge Out Ahead” markers were still posted, even though the road itself is fully passable. Crews were seen removing cones, barrels, and signage from the site just before noon on Tuesday, but not all of the outdated signs have been taken down yet.

Despite the lingering signage, the road is now open and safe to use. Local residents have expressed their relief and happiness to have this key route available again. Drivers can now take Baldwin Road as a straight shot between Fenton and Grand Blanc without detours.
