After Years of Waiting, Billy Bob’s Is Finally Opening in Grand Blanc

In December 2023, it was announced that the former Grand Blanc Inn, known to most locals simply as GBI, would become Billy Bob's Country Market. After more than two and a half years of waiting, opening week has finally arrived.

We stopped by on Friday and spoke with management, who confirmed that the doors are expected to open sometime this week.

Inside, employees were busy stocking shelves and filling attractive new display stands while beverage distributors unloaded drinks. Outside, the Marathon gas pumps are fully operational and ready to serve customers as soon as the store opens.

Delays at Other Marathon Projects Across Genesee County

For anyone who's driven past Billy Bob's on Dort Highway over the past couple of years, the construction has been quite the roller coaster. At times, work seemed to move quickly before coming to a complete stop, only to pick back up again months later.

That pattern hasn't been unique to Billy Bob's. Similar delays affected other Marathon projects throughout Genesee County, including BG's Marathon at Center and Maple in Burton, where fuel pumps sat idle for months before opening.

The same thing happened at the new Marathon truck stop at Bristol and Linden roads, home to MooYah Burgers and the relocated Coffee Beanery.

Another Flint-Area Marathon Project Finally Crosses the Finish Line

Now, one by one, those projects are finally opening. Billy Bob's Country Market appears to be the latest Marathon location ready to welcome customers in Grand Blanc Township.
