Creasey Bicentennial Park Gets $1.2M Upgrade in Grand Blanc

If you’ve spent any time at Creasey Bicentennial Park in Grand Blanc, you know there are two things you can count on. There’s always something going on, and finding a parking spot can sometimes feel like you’re competing in the Olympics. Well, Grand Blanc is doing something about at least one of those problems.

Major Construction Happening at Bicentennial Park in Grand Blanc Township

WJRT has reported that a $1.2 million makeover is underway at Creasey Bicentennial Park, and when it’s finished, there will be 317 new parking spaces, including 13 accessible spaces.

The project also includes a redesigned parking lot and roadway system designed to improve traffic flow and accessibility. So hopefully, getting in and out of the park will be a little less like a game of Mario Kart.

The parking improvements are just one part of the project. Crews are also adding eight-foot-wide asphalt pathways connecting the parking lot with the pavilions, playground and existing multi-use trail.

That should make getting around the park easier for everyone, whether you’re pushing anything from a stroller to a wheelchair, dragging a bunch of kids around or just trying not to trip over something. There will be 13 ADA-accessible parking spaces included in the new layout, along with the improved pathways designed to make the park a little easier to navigate for everyone.

South Pavilion Gets Major Upgrades at Creasey Park

The South Pavilion is also getting a pretty substantial facelift. The renovations include updated restrooms, a food preparation area, electrical, plumbing and mechanical systems, along with a new concrete floor.

There will also be a new family restroom featuring a universal changing station. Now, that might sound like a small detail... until you’ve got a baby who has decided that the middle of a family outing is the perfect time to create an emergency. Then suddenly, that restroom becomes one of the most important buildings in Genesee County.

Creasey Park Improvements Move Forward Without New Millage

The entire project is being funded through a combination of the Land and Water Conservation Fund, a Housing and Urban Development grant and the Grand Blanc Township Parks & Recreation Millage Fund.

And that’s worth mentioning because Grand Blanc voters rejected a proposed parks millage increase last year.

The Proposal Was Defeated By About Four Percent in Grand Blanc

The township had asked voters to approve one additional mill for 10 years, which would have generated approximately $1.9 million annually for improvements to Bicentennial Park.

Despite that rejection, the current Creasey Park improvements are moving forward using grant funding and money from the township’s existing parks and recreation millage.

Construction Continues, But So Do The Improvements At Bicentennial Park

So, basically, Creasey Bicentennial Park is getting more parking, better pathways, improved accessibility and upgraded facilities. And hopefully, fewer people will be driving around the parking lot looking for a spot while quietly questioning every life decision that brought them there.

Grand Blanc Parks and Recreation says it will provide updates as construction continues, including information about any roadway closures or traffic changes.
