Henry Ford Genesys Nurses Still on Strike One Year Later, But Progress Reported

One year after nurses at Henry Ford Genesys Hospital in Grand Blanc Township went on strike, their fight is still not over.

The strike officially began on September 1, 2025, when nurses represented by Teamsters Local 332 walked off the job. At the center of the dispute are nurse-to-patient ratios, with striking nurses arguing that safer and more manageable staffing levels are needed at the hospital.

Why Henry Ford Genesys Nurses Went on Strike

The hospital has said its proposed contract includes the same nurse-to-patient ratios that were part of the nurses' previous contract.

Union leaders, however, have pushed back on that argument, saying nurses have continued dealing with understaffing and that the current situation has created concerns about working conditions and patient care.

How The Strike Has Affected Local Nurses at Henry Ford Genesys

For registered nurse Stephanie Bates, the past year has involved some major personal sacrifices. Bates, who has worked at Genesys for more than 20 years, says living on strike pay forced her family to make significant budget cuts. She has also spent countless hours on the picket line and in negotiations, missing important moments with her children along the way.

Despite all of that, Bates says support from other unions and fellow nurses has helped keep the striking workers going according to ABC 12.

Grand Blanc Township Nurses Hope Negotiations Lead to a Deal

There may finally be some reason for cautious optimism. Teamsters Local 332 President Dan Glass says negotiations held Monday brought more positive progress than the union has seen in months. While there is still work to be done, Glass says he is cautiously optimistic that the two sides could eventually reach an agreement.

Henry Ford Genesys Hospital has also said it remains hopeful that the striking nurses will ultimately return to care for patients and the Mid-Michigan community.

So, one full year after the strike began, the picket lines are still standing. But for the first time in quite a while, both the union and the hospital appear to agree on at least one thing: they hope they can finally find a way to bring this long-running dispute to an end.
