It’s been more than a year since nurses at Henry Ford Genesys in Grand Blanc went on strike, and there is still no new contract agreement between the hospital and Teamsters Local 332. Now, some Genesys nurses are asking for a vote on whether the Teamsters should continue representing them.

Genesys Nurses Want a Vote on Their Union

WJRT reports that a Genesys nurse filed a decertification petition with the National Labor Relations Board on September 10. The NLRB lists the case as open and says it involves registered nurses and per diem nurses at Henry Ford Genesys and related facilities.

According to the petition provided by William Messenger, legal director of the National Right to Work Legal Defense Foundation, more than 30% of the nurses represented by the union signed the petition. Messenger says his organization is representing nurses involved in the effort.

Genesys Nurses Have Been on Strike Since 2025

The strike began September 1, 2025, after negotiations broke down over issues including nurse-to-patient ratios. More than 90 bargaining sessions have taken place, according to Henry Ford Health, but the two sides still have not reached a contract agreement.

Messenger says nurses have different reasons for supporting the petition, including frustration over how long and contentious the strike has become.

Teamsters Dispute the Petition

Teamsters Local 332 President Dan Glass disputes the accuracy of the petition and says the union will challenge its validity through the NLRB process.

Henry Ford Health says the decertification effort was started independently by team members and that hospital and health system leaders were not involved.

NLRB Hearing Scheduled for Thursday

The NLRB is scheduled to hold a hearing Thursday. One of the questions expected to be addressed is whether striking nurses would be eligible to vote if an election moves forward.

Glass says he believes striking nurses should be eligible and says the Teamsters will challenge the petition at the hearing. For now, the NLRB process will determine whether Genesys nurses get a vote on whether Teamsters Local 332 remains their representative.
