Flint Area Watching As Genesys Nurses Strike Continues
Living here in Flint and Genesee County, it is hard not to notice the story unfolding just down the road in Grand Blanc Township. Every time I drive past Henry Ford Genesys Hospital, I am reminded that for more than six months now, nurses have been walking the picket line outside the place where so many of our friends, neighbors, and family members go for care.
The Strike Just Down The Road In Grand Blanc Continues
This all started on September 1, 2025, when hundreds of nurses with Teamsters Local 332 went on strike. Since then, the situation has turned into one of those local stories you can almost feel in the air around Genesee County. You see the signs. You hear people talking about it at coffee shops, at work, even in the grocery store checkout line.
A New Contract Offer Appears
This week brought what feels like another twist in the story. The hospital says it has increased its latest offer, including pay raises of up to 13 percent. For many nurses, that could mean earning more than $100,000 per year. The proposal would also allow striking nurses to return to work. But like a lot of things in life, it is not that simple.

Union leaders say the offer still falls short because it does not guarantee nurses will get their exact jobs back according to ABC 12. The hospital says nurses would keep their seniority, but shifts or departments might be different if those roles are already filled.
Why This Matters To Genesee County
From my perspective here in Flint, it is one of those moments that makes you pause and think about how complicated healthcare really is. On one side are nurses who have spent years, sometimes decades, caring for people in our community. On the other is a major hospital system trying to keep everything running.

As the strike stretches on, the rest of us here in Genesee County keep watching and hoping the two sides find a path forward. Because in the end, this hospital belongs to the entire community.
