Batteries Sold at Walmart, Amazon Recalled Due to Safety Concerns
About 12,000 button-cell batteries sold at Amazon, Walmart, and other major retailers are being recalled due to child safety concerns.
The National Consumer Safety Product Commission raised concerns about Tianqi AC4 and AC6 alkaline batteries, warning consumers that these products should immediately be relocated to a secure storage area inaccessible to children.
Details of the Battery Recall:
- Tianqiu AC4 and AC6 button-cell alkaline batteries
- 10 batteries per package
- Imported from May 2023 through August 2024
Why Are These Batteries Being Recalled?
The National Consumer Safety Product Commission's advisory indicates that the batteries listed above are not packaged correctly, failing to meet child-safety packaging laws mandated since 2003.
Reese's Law mandates federal safety requirements for button cells and coin batteries requiring a warning label that clearly identifies the hazard of ingestion and instructs consumers to keep these products out of the reach of children.
The law was enacted in 2002 and named after Reese Hamsmith, an 18-month-old toddler from Texas, who died after eating a button-cell battery.
