Sheriff Calls Michigan Crop Heists a 'Major League Operation'

This isn't a coincidence - it's a carefully-organized crime circuit and it's made the national news.

Exactly one week ago, we told you about the orchard in St. Clair County that had more than 350 pumpkins stolen overnight.

Three days later, Spicer Orchards in Fenton announced that 22,000 apples had been stolen over the course of a few days from their property.

Now, an orchard just over the Michigan border in LaPorte County, Indiana has reported that 50,000 apples have been stolen.

Genesee County Sheriff Robert Pickell says that this is a "major league operation" and a "team of pickers - a well-organized machine."

None of the locations had cameras because they didn't think they needed them, considering that this has never happened before. However, they're now installing them. Some of the orchard owners say that their bottom line will suffer and that they can't afford to stay open the entire season.
