Police have arrested a teen who walked into a local motel posing as a Michigan State Police officer.

It's amazing to me that somebody can still get away with this. It happened at 11 p.m. last Saturday. The man did not have a gun but was wearing a badge and shoulder patches that were consistent with an MSP uniform. The fake police officer told staff at the motel that he was responding to a call at the business.

Surveillance video inside the Budget Inn captured everything that happened in the lobby. The 17-year -old went about things as if he were a real police officer. After pretending to take a report he left. The manager of the motel thought something wasn't quite right so he flagged down a Bay City Police officer.

That's when they realized the State Trooper was a fake. The 17-year-old is being charged as an adult. He faces one count of False Representation of a Police Officer. The crime is a misdemeanor that carries a sentence of up to one year in jail.

Police warn that if you are ever contacted by an individual identifying themselves as police and you are unsure, call 911 to verify their identity. Thanks to your help Michigan State Police have made an arrest in this matter.
