A heartbreaking situation played out on Sunday in Genesee County's Mundy Township last weekend left 12 families homeless after a fire tore through their apartment complex. If you’re looking for a way to help, a local apple orchard is stepping up.

Damouni Farms Benefit Will Help Fire Victims

Damouni Farms Apple Orchard is hosting a fundraising benefit for the displaced families.

The six-hour event is Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Damouni Farms, located at 2391 West Reid Road in Mundy Township, just off Torrey Road between Hill and Grand Blanc Roads.

The farm is just down the road from Crystal Lake Apartments, where the fire broke out. You can actually see both the apple orchard and the apartment complex as you approach Grand Blanc Road on US-23.

Damouni Farms Benefit Will Help Fire Victims

According to Damouni Farms’ Facebook page, they’ll have hot dogs, chips and pop available for purchase, with all proceeds benefiting the families affected by the fire. They’re also giving all first responders a free hot dog.

Damouni Farms will also donate a percentage of sales from the Country Store and The Coop Hard Cider & Wine Tasting Room to the victims of Sunday night’s fire.

A Mundy Township Fire Left 12 Families Without Homes

The three-alarm fire broke out just before 9:45 p.m. on July 26. The blaze escalated quickly, and several other fire departments from across Mid-Michigan were called in to assist. The fire destroyed 12 units at the apartment complex. Thankfully, no serious injuries were reported.
