$261M Megasite Near Flint Sparks Anger as Bulldozers Roll Without a Project
If you live anywhere near Mundy Township right now, you probably feel like you’re living inside a guessing game that nobody asked to play. One by one, perfectly good houses are being knocked down. Farmland that just grew summer crops is being ripped apart. And for what? Nobody will say, at least not clearly.
What Residents Want to Know
State lawmakers approved $261 million to buy up these properties for a so-called megasite, a massive patch of land west of Bishop Airport that’s supposed to attract some giant manufacturer. But months later, residents are still being kept in the dark. There’s no company, no confirmed project, not even a hint that anyone is interested. Just bulldozers. And frustration.
Lawmaker Calls for a Pause
Rep. Steve Carra says he’s had enough. He’s demanding a halt to demolitions out of what he calls 'disappointment and disgust.' And honestly, a lot of people around here agree. Why are we tearing down lived-in homes, ranches, farmhouses, and newer subdivisions, when there’s zero guarantee any development will ever happen?

It doesn’t help that the one big company that was secretly courted, Sandisk, walked away months ago. That deal was loaded with billions in incentives and a 50-year tax-free zone. Residents weren’t even told it was happening until it was falling apart.
Meanwhile, the Flint & Genesee Economic Alliance says they’re just doing what the state told them: make the land “turnkey” and hope someone bites. But after spending over $100 million buying 1,270 acres, plus $31.6 million more to demolish everything on it, people want answers.

Instead, they get silence. No asking price. No timeline. No transparency.

Just another neighborhood scraped off the map, and a community stuck waiting to find out if this megasite is real, or if all that destruction was for nothing. Residents simply want answers.
