
6-Foot Wide Sinkhole Forces Long-Term Road Closure in Genesee County
Genesee County was slammed with heavy rain over the weekend, causing flooding and road closures across the county. Most closures will reopen as the flood water subsides, but one road will be closed for quite some time.
Massive Sinkhole Closes Webster Road in Mt. Morris Township
A sinkhole has closed Webster Road about a quarter mile north of Stanley Road in Mt. Morris Township. Genesee County 911 Dispatch posted the road closure on Sunday, April 5, 2026 at 3:13 p.m. This is not a small pothole, it is large enough to swallow a car. Flood watches and warnings remain in effect across Genesee County and Mid-Michigan following the weekend deluge. Some of the road closures we reported yesterday are still in effect, and new closures have been added as flood water continues to run off.
What Roads Are Closed in Genesee County Right Now
As of Monday afternoon, April 6, 2026, Genesee County 911 shows road closures on Hogan at Lobdell in Argentine Township, Cook Road between Meadowland and Orchardview in Grand Blanc Township, and Burpee Road between Gale and Vassar in Atlas Township.

Just after noon today, Jordan Road between Irish Road and Atlas Road in Atlas Township was also closed due to flooding. McCandlish between Gaitway and Vassar remains closed due to flooding.
When Will Genesee County Roads Reopen
While many of these temporary road closures will reopen as water levels drop, the issue on Webster Road in Mt. Morris Township will take significantly longer to repair. A large section of the road will need to be completely rebuilt before it can reopen to traffic.
