The Michigan State Police say they want Michiganders to know that MSP posts are open and available to the public as safe locations to conduct private business transactions.

According to the MSP, there have been reports in other areas of the state about people who have been victimized by assailants posing as sellers or buyers on the Internet and third-party transaction sites. Lt. David Kaiser, Public information officer for the Third District Headquarters, says "this gesture is a preventative measure for citizens to consider when conducting a business transaction with a stranger. the MSP is offering its lobbies as safe location because transactions involving money can be unpredictable and sometimes dangerous."

The MSP had previously offered its posts as safe locations to those that called and expressed concern over meeting a stranger to conduct a business transaction.

The five posts in the MSP Third District - which includes Caro, Flint, Lapeer, Tri-City and West Branch - are open Mondays through Fridays from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.
