Michigan State Police, Kroger Feed 200 Families for Thanksgiving – The Good News
That's 200 fewer families who will be going to the already overwrought food banks this year.
It doesn't take a genius to see it - this year has been a rough one. There are about 12.6 million people out of work as of October 2020. And, with the latest "pause to save lives," we have no doubt that the number has gone up since then, especially in Michigan.
Food banks are busier this year than ever before - families are struggling to feed their families this Thanksgiving. That's why Kroger and the Michigan State Police have teamed up to feed 200 Michigan families this fall.
It's part of Kroger's Zero Hunger | Zero Waste plan, which includes the goal of donating 3 billion meals by the year 2025.
On November 23rd, WNEM-TV 5 went door-to-door with Michigan State Police troopers to deliver meals to people who need them. They include a traditional turkey and enough sides to feed 4-6 people.
At Kroger we are committed to ending hunger in the communities in which we live and serve. Our goal to donate three billion meals by 2025 with our Zero Hunger | Zero Waste social impact plan, takes partnerships across the state to achieve. We continue to partner with the MSP to help us identify families in need during the Thanksgiving Season and look forward to another year helping to provide hope during the holiday season,” said Rachel Hurst, the corporate affairs manager for Kroger to CBS 62 - Detroit.
Troopers masked up and left the meals on peoples' porches and doorsteps. And THAT, my friends, is the good news for today, and I think it's GREAT.
