Excavator Accident Damages Overpass, Lahring Road Bridge Closed [VIDEO]

An accident that left southbound US 23 closed for several hours has damaged the Lahring Road overpass, leaving it closed indefinitely. The driver, from Proex Inc. of Burton, did not realize the excavator he was towing on a trailer was too tall to clear the overpass.

An MDOT engineer tells ABC-12 that the accident caused damage to five of the eight support beams.

No one was hurt in the incident.
