Community Heartbroken After 2026 Flushing Graduate Killed in Crash

This is one of those stories that's just heartbreaking, especially if you're from Genesee County.

A Heartbreaking Loss for the Flushing Community

A young man from Flushing who had his whole future in front of him was killed in a crash over the weekend in Grand Blanc according to ABC 12. Police say it happened just before 12:30 Sunday morning near Boutell and Morningside Drive.

A car carrying five young men went off the road, crashed through the wall of a garage,  and ended up inside the garage.

2026 Flushing Graduate Caleb Metcalf Was Thrown From the Vehicle

One of the passengers, 2026 Flushing graduate Caleb Metcalf, was thrown from the vehicle and was found partially underneath it. He was taken to the hospital, but sadly he didn't survive.

What really gets me is hearing people talk about who Caleb was. Flushing schools called him a humble leader, a hardworking student-athlete, and someone whose smile could light up a room. His football coach said something that really stuck with me: everybody liked him. You know how people say that after someone passes away? In this case, it sounds like it was genuinely true. He got along with everyone.

A Bright Future Was Just Beginning for Caleb Metcalf

Caleb had already signed to play football at Lawrence Tech University, and he was interested in studying biomedical engineering or another science-related field. He wasn't just a talented athlete, he was a young man with big goals and a bright future.

The other people in the vehicle were not injured, and police are still investigating what caused the crash. Once the investigation is finished, the case will be sent to the Genesee County Prosecutor's Office for review.

Right now, the entire Flushing community is grieving. It's a tragic reminder of how quickly life can change, and our thoughts are with Caleb's family, friends, teammates, and everyone who knew and loved him.
