In fact, school start dates are spread over several weeks, meaning some families are already shopping for school supplies while others are still squeezing in one last summer vacation.

Among the 21 public school districts that make up the Genesee Intermediate School District, just over half will welcome students back on Monday, August 24. That's the most common first day of school this year.

One district gets an even earlier jump on the school year, opening its doors on Monday, August 17, making it the earliest start date in Genesee County.

Which School Districts Wait Until After Labor Day?

On the other end of the calendar, only two local school districts are sticking with the tradition of starting after Labor Day. Those students won't report to class until Tuesday, September 8.
