A Plane Passed Drivers on I-69 in Genesee County During Emergency, Here’s What Went Down
Imagine driving down I-69 through Genesee County, minding your own business, when you get passed. But not by another driver, but by a pilot landing a plane on the freeway.
Well, if you were in the right place at the right time on Saturday afternoon, you didn’t have to imagine it.
Small Plane Makes Emergency Landing on I-69 in Flint Township
The pilot, whose identity has not been released, was attempting to land at Flint’s Bishop Airport. MLive reports that a mechanical failure caused the single-engine plane to lose power. That’s why the plane started descending before the pilot would have been able to reach the runway at the airport. But just barely.

The quick-thinking pilot was able to steer the plane to a freeway below as it glided to the ground, with no engine powering the aircraft. The Flint Township Police Department said that the plane was able to land on the shoulder of I-69 near I-75.
No Injuries Reported After Plane Lands on Freeway Shoulder
The pilot was able to land the plane on the freeway after the construction zone between Morrish Road and Bristol Road. That would have been a disaster. But luckily, the plane landed safely. There were no injuries reported, and none of the vehicles on I-69 suffered any damage.

The tree line on the side of the freeway stopped the plane, which looks like it was totaled. So much so that I can’t believe the pilot was able to walk away from this.
