Supporting Genesee County Kids
The goal of the Roof Sit is to raise awareness and financial support for the center, helping kids here in Genesee County who need it most.
History of Whaley Children’s Center
Whaley Children’s Center was founded in Flint in the mid‑1920s by philanthropist Robert H. Whaley in memory of his son. Its mission is to serve children who have experienced abuse, neglect, or trauma, providing them with a safe and nurturing environment.
Therapeutic and Residential Services
The center operates a residential treatment campus, including the Mott Residence and surrounding group homes. Children live in a home‑like setting with a 3:1 staffing ratio, recreational areas, and opportunities for community outings.

Therapeutic services include trauma‑focused cognitive behavioral therapy, play therapy, group therapy, and the Circle of Courage model, which promotes belonging, mastery, independence, and generosity.
Aftercare continues for at least six months after a child leaves the center, with individualized services such as housing, education, and employment support to help youth successfully transition.

On average, Whaley Children’s Center serves about 90 children each year, achieving strong outcomes thanks to its trauma‑informed care and evidence‑based programs.
