McDonald’s is currently testing an AI-powered drive-thru system right here in the Midwest. So, will this technology be coming to a Michigan Mickey D's near you anytime soon? The answer is maybe, but not just yet.

FOX 2 reports that McDonald's is quietly testing a new artificial intelligence ordering system called "Archy" at five locations in the Chicago area. Instead of placing an order with a person wearing a headset, customers can speak directly to an AI system that takes their order and sends it to the kitchen.

McDonald's Earlier AI Experiments Had Mixed Results

If this sounds familiar, that's because McDonald's has experimented with AI ordering before. Those earlier attempts produced mixed results, including some viral stories about orders getting completely mixed up. This time, however, company insiders say the technology is performing much better.

According to a McDonald's franchise source, the system has already processed more than one million transactions during testing, and roughly 90 percent of orders were completed without requiring a human employee to step in. That's a pretty impressive number for technology that is still being tested.
