This list started hypothetically. Well, now something has been shot down over Lake Huron.

The iconic weather ball in Downtown Flint has been providing simple forecasts since 1956.

The Citizens Bank weather ball has been a highlight of the Flint skyline since it went up on August 30, 1956, but it's future was unclear with the announcement of Citizens Bank's purchase by FirstMerit Bank. Yesterday, the fate of the weather ball was revealed.

Though the look of Downtown Flint will change this summer when the Genesee Towers are demolished, since 1956 the Citizen's Bank Weather Ball has dominated the Flint Skyline. I wondered how it works since I was a kid, and I finally had the chance to see it up close, and personal!
