Michigan: Check Here to See if Your Electric Space Heater Has Been Recalled
It's the time of year when space heaters come out of the closet or you have to resort to shelling out about a hundred bucks at a local store or on Amazon for a new one - because there's that one room in your house or workplace that stays frigid regardless of how warm the thermostat is set.
But since more than 500,000 electric space heaters have been recalled due to overheating concerns, yours could be on the recall list.
Extreme Nerd Alert:
My office here at the radio station is situated on two outside walls (That sounds a lot less braggadocious than saying "I have a corner office"), so it gets extremely cold in the winter.
Here's the nerdy part: About an hour before I leave the house, I tell Alexa to turn on the heat in my office, so it's toasty warm when I get in. Rigging that up took a long time, but naturally, I did it on company time so it was worth the effort.
What Space Heaters Are Being Recalled?
If you have an electric space heater manufactured by Govee or GoveeLife, it's possibly under a recall. The company has recalled 512,000 smart electric space heaters because they're at risk of overheating.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) warns owners to stop using the products immediately, due to "fire and burn hazards."
The recall for Govee and GoveeLife products affects the following model numbers:
Model Numbers H7130 (including the H7130101 variation), H7131, H7132, H7133, H7134, and H7135.
Check the label on the bottom or side of the heater for the model number information.
What Do You Do if You Have a Space Heater That's Been Recalled?
Consumers should stop using these models immediately. You can contact the brand for a refund. Unplug the unit, cut the power cord, and send a picture of the destroyed heater (along with the product label and serial number) through the manufacturer's website.
