Six Schools In Genesee County Will Be Designated Covid Vaccination Sites

So far the talk of a Covid-19 vaccine has been just talk, but now it looks like we are getting closer to it becoming reality in Genesee County.

The Genesee County Health Department has announced that they will be partnering with six school districts to distribute the vaccine when it is available. This is great news for all of us in struggling with the pandemic right now. There are still not a ton of details about how many doses, and which of the vaccines we will be getting in Michigan.

The GCHD did release the school districts that it would be partnering with to distribute the vaccines. The six school districts are listed below.

• Davison
• Flint
• Flushing
• Grand Blanc
• Lake Fenton
• Mt Morris

While this is great news, the GCHD wants to remind everyone that as of right now, there are no Covid-19 vaccines available in Genesee County.

The news that the vaccines have been tested and proven to be very effective is great, but we still have a long way to go.

The business of getting the vaccine out to everyone is very complicated and expensive. Federal aid is being worked out now to help organize delivery and storage of the vaccine. Then we need to work out who will be first to get the vaccine. So far all indications are that front line health workers will be first in line. Followed by the public that is most at risk to the virus. If you are a healthy, low risk adult, it most likely will be well into 2021 before the vaccine is available.

I think the key thing here is to focus on the fact that we are getting ready to turn a corner against the Coronavirus. Even after the vaccine is out for the public it will still be important to follow safety guidelines, but at least we can see the finish line.
