Cheryl Williams from Detroit says her son woke her up to give her the good news.
“My mother played these two sets of numbers for years, so I decided to continue playing them after she passed,” Williams tells the Michigan Lottery. “My son checked the ticket for me after the drawing that night and woke me up to tell me the good news when he saw I’d won. We were both speechless!”
Cheryl Williams' Tribute to Her Mother Pays Off
Williams matched four white balls and the Power Ball in the March 30 drawing. Her numbers 03, 07, 21, 31, and 37 netted her a $50,000 prize, but since she also matched the Power Ball which was 11, she tripled her winnings to $150,000.
Cheryl bought her winning ticket, playing her mom's lucky numbers at a Sunoco gas station on 8 Mile in Detroit.
How Will Cheryl Spend All That Money?
Williams tells the Michigan Lottery that she plans to use her winnings to take a vacation and pay off some bills.
The Powerball jackpot was last won on Valentine's Day, February 14, when one lucky player in Connecticut won a $185.3 million jackpot. The current jackpot now stands at an estimated $421 million, with a cash payout of $252 million. The next Powerball drawing is Monday, April 25 at 11 pm.
