Michigan Woman Finds a $3 Million Lottery Ticket in Her Spam Folder
Check your spam folder. An Oakland County woman is glad she did because she found a $3 million lottery prize in hers.
There Can be More Than Just Junk in Your Spam Folder
Among the offers from Groupon, a discount printer ink outlet, and Silver Singles, Laura Spears found a notification email from the Michigan Lottery.
The Oakland County woman says she purchased a Mega Millions ticket for the December 31 drawing on the Michigan Lottery's website. The 55-year-old matched five white balls which was good for a cool $1 million. But thanks to the 'Megaplier, her winnings were multiplied to $3 million.
Looking for a Missing Email
Spears says it was just by chance that she saw the email from the Michigan Lottery.
“I saw an ad on Facebook that the Mega Millions jackpot was getting pretty high, so I got on my account and bought a ticket,” Spears tells the Michigan Lottery. “A few days later, I was looking for a missing email from someone, so I checked the spam folder in my email account."
It's always a good idea to take a glance at your junk.
“That’s when I saw an email from the Lottery saying I had won a prize. I couldn’t believe what I was reading, so I logged in to my Lottery account to confirm the message in the email. It’s all still so shocking to me that I really won $3 million!”
Spears says she's added the Michigan Lottery to her 'Safe Senders' list.
No one has matched all the Mega Millions numbers since October of last year, so this Tuesday's (1/25) jackpot is now up to an estimated $396 million.
