Perhaps most notable is that 12 of those arrests were for carrying a concealed weapon. Police say two of the people arrested on those charges were juveniles. The remaining arrests involved offenses like aggravated assault, resisting and obstructing officers, larceny, and disorderly conduct.

The fireworks celebration also included a much more serious incident that's still under investigation. According to Detroit Police Chief Todd Bettison, officers were investigating a teenager who reportedly brought a gun to the event in a backpack when another teen took off running, leading to a foot chase.

She credited Detroit police for maintaining order during one of the city's biggest annual gatherings, while acknowledging that large events sometimes attract people looking to cause trouble.
