Oakland County Opens Vaccine Site in Pontiac

As more vaccine sites open up across the state I'm starting to feel more and more confident that my turn is coming to finally get my vaccine shot.

It was announced earlier today that Oakland County has opened another large vaccination site at the UWM Sports Complex at 867 S Blvd E, Pontiac. This is a really big venue which has a capacity limit of 5,000 people. So it's believed they'll be able to vaccinate 1,000 to 3,000 residents per day.

Sites like these at the UWM Sports Complex are so vital to our efforts to get more than 1 million Oakland County residents vaccinated quickly and efficiently. With more doses on the way to Michigan, we are continuing to accelerate our efforts to make a safe and effective vaccine available to all eligible residents.

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer was on hand to help kick off the event today.

This community vaccination site will help us hit our statewide target of 100,000 shots a day and is a testament to what we can do when we work together.

Oakland County will schedule appointments at the UWM Sports Complex through the Save Your Spot list. There are currently 225,000 people registered on the list. Basically, you sign up for an appointment and when vaccine doses become available, they will contact you.

I haven't signed up anywhere yet to get my shot but that is my plan in the next couple of weeks. More than likely I'll make an appointment at Meijer and just wait my turn.
