Winning a huge lottery jackpot on April Fool's Day is not a joke. It's serious business, and it seriously happened to a man in Oakland County.

The 63-year-old player matched the winning numbers in the April 1 Fantasy 5 drawing, to win the big prize. The player, who has chosen not to reveal his identity, won $429, 249.

The lucky player tells the Michigan Lottery that he frequently plays lottery games, buying his tickets online and in his local stores.

“I have been an avid Lottery player for years and play all of the different games in store and online,” he said.

He bought his winning ticket for the April 1 drawing online, but didn't check the numbers until the next day. His big win was no April Fool's Day joke.

"I bought my Fantasy 5 ticket on April 1, but I didn’t check the winning numbers until the next day," he said. "When I saw I’d won the jackpot, I thought it was some sort of April Fools’ joke. I was thrilled when I called the Lottery and found out the prize was indeed real!"
