Some Michigan hospitals will be offering free screenings for lung cancer this month.

In case you didn't know, November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month and some area hospitals are stepping up to help patients in need. Several Ascension hospitals in mid-Michigan will be offering free lung cancer screenings for qualifying patients.

When and where will Ascension be offering the no-cost, low-dose CT lung screenings?

The lung cancer screenings will be offered in early November at Ascension hospitals in Grand Blanc, Saginaw, Tawas City, and Standish. The screening events are scheduled for the following locations and times:

  • Saturday, November 6th, 2021 from 9 am until 3 pm
    • Ascension Genesys Hospital - Grand Blanc

What are the eligibility requirements for the no-cost lung cancer screenings?

For those looking to take advantage of the no-cost lung cancer screenings, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Individuals must be between the ages of 55 and 77 years old
  • Individuals must be a current smoker or have quit in the past 15 years
  • Individuals must have, at minimum, a 30+ pack-year smoking history. That means 1 pack per day for 30 years, 2 packs per day for 15 years, and so on.
