Ascension Hospitals to Require All Staff Get COVID Vaccine
Ascension hospital group will now require that all staff and associates get the COVD vaccine.
In an announcement yesterday, July 27th, Ascension will begin a requirement that all associates be vaccinated against COVID-19. This decision was made after they conducted a thorough moral and ethical analysis of the situation and it was rooted in their Mission commitment to leading with quality and safety.
Who will be required to get the COVID-19 vaccine at Ascension?
Ascension will soon require that all associates to get the vaccine, whether or not they provide direct patient care or whether they work in a care site or remotely. Others required to get the vaccine include:
- Associates employed by subsidiaries and partners
- Physicians and advanced practice providers
- Those employed or independent
- Volunteers
- Vendors entering Ascension facilities.
When does the vaccination requirement kick in?
Ascension associates will have a deadline of November 12, 2021, to get the vaccine. This date also lines up with Ascension's annual influenza vaccination requirement.
Will Ascension associates be able to opt-out of the vaccine?
Those associates that are not able to get the vaccine due to medical conditions or strong religious beliefs will be able to request an exemption. The exemption process will be similar to that of the exemption process for the influenza vaccine.
This requirement will be implemented in accordance with collective bargaining agreements between unions representing associates and Ascension business entities.
