Fully Vaccinated Michigan Couple Contracts COVID-19

Matt and Nicole Pierson of Sterling Heights have both received their COVID-19 vaccines. On Easter morning, their 20-month-old daughter Emme woke up not feeling well.  A few days later, Emme and her parents tested positive for coronavirus. Their other two children, Drew and Noah, tested negative.

Nicole received both of her Pfizer vaccines in January and her husband received his last dose March 3. She tells the Detroit Free Press that it's possible that their daughter contracted the virus at daycare.

We were both eligible for vaccines through work early on. We wear masks, practice social distancing, we haven't gotten together with friends or family or anything, but my daughter does go to day care.

According to the Free Press, on Monday, state officials reported 334 potential vaccine breakthrough cases. Which means at least 14 days have passed since the individual received their second dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine or one dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine and have been infected.

As of this week, on Tuesday, FOX 47 reports that 45% of Michigan residents have received their first vaccination and 30% are fully vaccinated.
