Michigan’s Tunnel of Trees Partially Collapses After Heavy Rain
Alright, so this weather lately has been doing way more than just making things soggy. It’s actually starting to tear stuff up across Michigan.
What Happened to the Tunnel of Trees Near Petoskey
Up north, one of the most iconic drives in the state just took a serious hit. A section of the Tunnel of Trees along M-119 near Petoskey has collapsed according to a report from MLive. We’re talking about a big chunk of road just gone, washed out after days of heavy rain. There’s a photo going around from the Good Hart General Store, and it’s pretty wild, just a massive hole where the road used to be.

If you’ve ever driven that stretch between Harbor Springs and Cross Village, you know how special it is. It’s that winding, narrow road along Lake Michigan, with the trees basically forming a canopy over you. Especially in the fall, it’s packed with people checking out the colors. But right now, it’s definitely not the time for a scenic drive through there.

And honestly, that situation up north is kind of the extreme version of what we’re starting to deal with down here in Mid-Michigan.

Bottom line, it’s going to be a soggy stretch, so stay weather-aware and give yourself extra time if you’re out driving.
