Major Furniture Retailer to Close 7 Stores Across Michigan
A prominent furniture chain with 16 Michigan locations has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and says it plans to close several U.S. stores, including seven in Michigan.
American Signature Inc., the parent company of Value City Furniture, announced on Nov. 23 that it had filed for bankruptcy, according to a company news release. CBS News reports the company said it plans to fulfill customer orders during the court process.
Why Value City Furniture Is Closing Stores
Before the Michigan closures were announced, Value City Furniture said it planned to shut down four stores in the Nashville, Tennessee, area. The company described the move as “part of a broader initiative to realign its market presence and strengthen operations in its top-performing regions.”
American Signature Inc. told USA Today that it expects “the future of our footprint to be determined by the outcome of the sale process.”
