Massive 3 Year Project to Reshape I-475 Starting Spring 2026
Get ready, because things are going to get messy on I-475 this spring. And it will remain that way for a long time.
MDOT has a virtual public meeting coming up on December 9 to break down everything drivers can expect with the massive I-475 project between Bristol Road in Burton and the Flint River in Flint. It is a three-year project that is sure to cause some headaches along the way.
What to Know About the Next Round of I-475 Work
Starting next spring, crews will rebuild about five miles of the expressway in both directions. Several bridges along the will be replaced or reconstructed, too, so this isn't just a quick patch job. Expect major changes, long-term lane shifts, and plenty of detours while they tear this thing apart and put it back together.

The meeting runs from 5 to 6 p.m., and MDOT will walk through the full plan, including where the detours will run and where new sound barrier walls might go. It is basically your heads-up before the slowdowns start.

This new phase follows the two-year, one-hundred-forty-one-million-dollar rebuild that wrapped up last month on the north end of I-475. Add in the earlier work between Carpenter Road and Saginaw Street, and MDOT is essentially rebuilding the entire corridor piece by piece.
If you want to know how this next round will impact your drive, hop on the virtual meeting.

And please, don't be the person who complains that the roads need to be fixed and then complains when they actually do the work. We've seen enough of that already.
