There are certain topics best left out of casual conversation—especially in bars or family gatherings. Politics and religion often top that list, and for good reason: emotions can run high, and things can escalate quickly.

Heated Religious Dispute Sparks Chaos

That’s exactly what happened at a Michigan City bar recently when 24-year-old Blake Schoiber decided to turn a religious discussion into a full-blown bar brawl.

According to police, Schoiber—who was reportedly heavily intoxicated—became aggressive with anyone who didn’t agree with his belief in Jesus.

Witnesses Describe Drunken Aggression

Patrons at Matey’s, a popular lakefront bar, said Schoiber loudly declared he wanted to fight anyone who didn’t share his faith. Not exactly the most Christian behavior.

The situation worsened as the bar prepared to close. Schoiber allegedly confronted the bartender before being escorted out by staff. Initially, it seemed like things were calming down when he got on a bicycle and rode away. But that didn’t last.

Shortly after leaving, he reportedly abandoned the bike and returned to the parking lot, yelling “Who wants some?” and continuing to provoke other customers.

Police Intervention and Arrest

When officers arrived on scene, they found Schoiber with another man in a headlock and acting aggressively toward everyone, including the police. Officers eventually managed to restrain both his hands and feet before taking him into custody.

Blake Schoiber is currently being held at the La Porte County Jail on a $755 bond. He is facing multiple charges including battery on a public safety official, disorderly conduct, and public intoxication.
