
Local Police Officers Assaulted by Genesee County Felon
The men and women who serve and protect us literally put their lives on the line every day. Their dedication to maintaining law and order is remarkable. When police officers are assaulted while doing their jobs, the punishment is tough.

That is exactly what a Michigan felon is learning the hard way.
Assault in Flint Township
The suspect was spotted riding on a mini-bike near Hemphill and Fenton Roads when Flint Township Police attempted to stop him. After triggering the patrol car's lights and sirens, Willie Ray Cummings, Jr., 29, was apprehended by the officers. But that was after they had to drive up on to the sidewalk to block Cummings' path.
Attempting to Apprehend the Suspect
Once they blocked his path, deputies patted him down and felt a gun in the man's pocket. At that point the suspect jumped on on of the officers and assaulted them both.

That was when one of the deputies pulled out a taser which incapacitated Cummings and he was then taken into custody.
What is a 'Ghost Gun'?
Once police had the man under control, the discovered a Ghost Gun in his pocket. According to Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson, they are 'assembled by the one who orders it online. Even if they aren't legally able to own a firearm.'
He continued to say, 'That's why ghost guns are so dangerous. Untraceable. Anybody can do it. You just assemble it at home.'
The Felon's Charges and Conviction
Willie Ray Cummings, Jr. has been officially found guilty and charged with 8 felonies in total.
- One count of carrying a concealed weapon
- One count of felon in possession of ammunition
- Three counts of felony firearm second offense
- Two counts of resisting and obstructing police
On May 19th a minimum sentence of five years is expected.
