Warning: Great Value Product Under Recall in Michigan
We have been dealing with so many food recalls over the last few months and now there is another one to add to the list.
Michigan Residents Bombarded by Product Recalls
Since November we have seen so many recalls that affect Michiganders it can be tough to keep them all straight. Here are some of the recalls you may have missed:
- Space Heaters: Electric Smart Space Heaters were recalled by The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) in November 2024.
- Dog Treats: Also, back in November, The FDA Recalled Some Dog Treats in November 2024 due to salmonella concerns.
- Milk: There was an urgent milk recall at the end of December issued by Horizon Organic Dairy for milk sold at CVS stores.
- Cold & Flu Medicine: An accidental release of cold & flu products was released and a recall was issued by Kirkland at the beginning of January.
- Coke: The Coca-Cola Company was faced with a recall due to high levels of a chemical called chlorate which can cause health problems in January.
- Chocolate: Some Chocolate products also made the list in January with a 'Potentially Deadly Risk' according to the Food & Drug Administration.
- Tuna: Earlier this month a tuna recall was issued by the FDA urging an 'abundance of caution' involving several brands sold across the United States.
- Baked Goods: Also this month a baked goods recall was issued affecting several businesses including Dunkin' Donuts due to listeria concerns.
The Latest Recall to Affect Michigan
It would appear that some Great Value products sold at Walmart stores are made by Smuckers, yes the jelly and jam company. This recall was surprisingly implemented way back on November 1st but neither Walmart or the Ohio-based Smuckers company released a statement or press release. By the time the recall was made public, the products had already passed their expiration dates.
The Food & Drug Administration upgraded the recall to a Class II Recall on November 19, 2024. The concern was over the possibility of plastic in the products which the FDA says is “a situation in which use of or exposure to a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote.”
