Daane Birchmeier and his dog Natty are together again! The Linden resident had all but given up on finding the 11-month-old shepherd mix, when he was contacted by Jackson County Animal Control, nearly 70 miles away.

Natty went missing on May 5th when Birchmeijer's was working on his truck at his parents' home in the Linden/Fenton area. Birchmeijer, who works at Vic Canever Chevrolet in Fenton, had just adopted Natty as a puppy in January.

"We have no idea how she ended up here," Birchmeier told M-Live. "I'm just ecstatic to have her back."

Debbie Drouin from the Jackson County Animal Shelter said it was fortunate that Natty had a microchip, a small electronic device place under the dog's skin, which helped quickly identify the dog's owner.
