Gas Station Nachos Were ‘Patient Zero’ in Botulism Outbreak
This is not how I pictured a deadly outbreak to happen, but here we are.
When you think of a deadly desease outbreak, you think of the movie Outbreak. You know, monkeys, Dustin Hoffman in a hazmat suit, yelling. Not unassuming gas station nachos.
According to a report from CBS Detroit, there was a outbreak of Botulism in California that ended up killing one person and making about ten people seriously ill. The cause? Nacho cheese.
Nacho cheese that was possibly mishandled and stored improperly at a gas station caused this breakout according to the California Department of Public Health. The dangerous dairy disaster has been removed from the store and there should be no more issues with nachos.
