Flint Schools Closed For The Week Due To Heat
Flint Community Schools will be closed for the rest of the week with Friday being undecided due to the current heatwave.
Flint Schools have yet to get their air conditioning together for each classroom. Forcing the Flint schools to close down until the upgrades come through. And that's if they get the upgrades at all.
The district said classes will be canceled districtwide from Tuesday, August 24 through Thursday, August 26th.
The district released the following statement saying, "The district continues to work to obtain air in all our classrooms. In the meantime, the district will continue to monitor the temperature outside to make informed decisions for the well-being of our school community.
You would think this is an easy issue to fix but everything costs money. This is a clear sign of how far behind our schools are in the Genesee County area. We can't afford to get our classroom outfitted with air conditioners? That's pretty sad especially when you look at other counties in Michigan like Ann Arbor that crush it on an academic level and have everything they need to be successful and more.
So if a county only 45 minutes away can get everything they need. Then we really need to take a step back and focus on our local schools. They at least deserve to be comfortable while being in class.
