It looks like students in the Flint Community School District will have a few more days off before returning to the classroom following Christmas break.

In a letter to parents on Sunday, January 2nd, Superintendent Kevelin Jones announced the classroom change just as students were gearing up to return after the holiday break. Jones told parents that all schools in the Flint Community Schools district will be closed to scholars on Monday, January 3rd, and Tuesday, January 4th.

According to the letter, also posted on the Flint Community Schools Facebook page, the decision was made out of concern and caution over the rising cases of COVID-19 across Genesee County.

In addition to the two-day closure, students will be making the shift to remote distance learning for the remainder of the week starting Wednesday.

"I apologize for the late notice and any inconvenience this causes our families, but we had hoped to be able to return for in-person learning after the holiday break. Unfortunately, with the rising number of cases across the County, we believe it is in the best interest of our school community to delay the return to in-person learning at this time. We will continue to monitor the number of cases and work with local health officials to determine when it is safe to welcome our scholars back for in-person learning", Jones said in the letter.

Jones indicated that teachers will be reporting as normal, Monday and Tuesday, to prepare to make the switch to remote learning at the end of the week.
