Flint and Muskegon are on top of a New York Times list of metro areas with the most new Covid-19 cases in relation to population.

The New York Times report is focused on tracking new Covid-19 cases over the most recent two week period. The numbers are ranked based on the overall population of the metro area, and that's how two Michigan cities ended up on top of the list. It's been no secret that Michigan is dealing with another Covid-19 surge, but I was shocked when I saw this report.

Before you get all crazy and start to say this is media hype, please realize that this is a snapshot of the last couple of weeks. The purpose of the study is to find areas that are struggling with a resurgence of new Covid cases. There are a few takeaways from the study that should be pointed out for Flint.

  • Flint is not listed as one of the metro areas that are "in trouble"
  • Genesee County has been very good at getting residents vaccinated
  • The study is only looking at the last two weeks

The other good news is that Genesee County is full of free vaccination sites, and many of them are offering same day appointments. Now that the Johnson & Johnson vaccine is approved for use again in Michigan, it will only add to the amount of available vaccines.

There are such deep divides in how people feel about Covid-19, but the facts are showing that the vaccines are working. It feels like we are close to returning to some kind of normal, and hopefully all of the people that have been stretched so far by the pandemic, will get a chance to breathe.

LOOK: Answers to 30 common COVID-19 vaccine questions

It will be necessary for as many Americans as possible to be vaccinated in order to finally return to some level of pre-pandemic normalcy, and hopefully these 30 answers provided here will help readers get vaccinated as soon they are able.
