
Fatal I-75 Crash Near Flint Linked to Possible Mechanical Failure
A deadly crash on I-75 Tuesday night serves as another reminder of how quickly things can go wrong on a busy Michigan freeway.
Fatal Crash Shuts Down I-75 in Flint Township
According to Flint Township police, a 46-year-old Mt. Morris Township man was killed after his vehicle apparently experienced a mechanical problem while traveling northbound on I-75. ABC 12 reports that the crash happened around 9:45 p.m. between Maple Avenue and Bristol Road.

Investigators say the man's vehicle was moving unusually slowly when it was struck from behind by a 17-year-old driver from Flushing. Witnesses told police the vehicle's lights appeared dim before the collision, which could point to a mechanical or electrical issue.

The Mt. Morris Township man was pronounced dead at the scene. The teen driver suffered minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The crash shut down northbound I-75 for several hours while police investigated, with the freeway reopening around 3 a.m. Wednesday morning.
Police Cite Mechanical Issues and Seatbelt Use in Fatal Flint Township Crash
Police say a vehicle malfunction and the victim not wearing a seatbelt appear to have been contributing factors in the crash. Investigators are still working to determine exactly what happened and are asking anyone who witnessed the incident to contact the Flint Township Police Department.
