Pirate's Park in Flint Township has been closed for nearly a decade, but Danen Williams is hoping to change all that in 2022.

Williams has been working to get Pirate's Park restored to it's former glory for the last year. He participated in the Pitch For $K contest this year to try and get a start on the money needed to restore Pirate's Park. Williams did not win first place, but he did win a $1,000 award to get him started. You can see his complete presentation on the Pirate's Park website here.

Now Williams is running a GoFundMe to raise $300,000 so he can get the revitalization of Pirate's Park started. Click the picture below to donate to the fundraiser.

Before we go any further, you should know that the $300,000 is just a drop in the bucket compared to the $3 Million that Williams thinks it will take to have the park match his vision.

This is not the first time that people have wanted to give Pirate's Park new life, but it is definitely the most ambitious one. As recently as last year, there was a $1.5 Million grant from the state to get the park opened again. Unfortunately the township was not ready to commit to the project considering the timing, and the unknown impact the pandemic would have.

So what exactly are the plans for Pirate's Park if it reopens?

The grand plan is exactly that, GRAND! This is all coming from the GoFundMe fundraiser, so obviously nothing is written in stone . . . but here are a few of the ideas

The park would restore all of the former activities including the arcade, mini-golf, waterslide, batting cages, bumper boats, and go karts. Then the bigger side of Williams vision kicks in.

This Park will be a grand show for all to see. LiveStream in Concert; we'll have races and plays, podcasts and contests. We want to become your new favorite pastime. In person or not. (Phase 7 is robots you control remotely to inhabit the park)

I don't know if this is all possible, but I LOVE the energy that Williams is bringing to the mission of reopening Pirate's Park. You can keep up with the progress on Facebook or the Pirates Park website.
