Aw, ABC-12's Christina Burkhart won her first Emmy award Saturday (6/15) and she was visibly moved.

Burkhart won the Weather 2018 award at the Michigan Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences award ceremony held in Detroit Saturday (6/15) evening.

"I didn't prepare anything because I didn't think I was going to win," Burkhart said as she choked back tears. "Sorry, this is my first one [and] I'm really excited."

Burkhart expressed her thanks to her coworkers, God, and family members who've been supportive of her career. She noted that her mom gets up at 4:30 am to watch her morning broadcasts.

WJRT's promotions team won two additional Emmy awards at Saturday's presentation.

WEYI and WSMH staffers Stephanie Parkinson and Jesse Gonzales were also awarded trophies for their news feature 'Remembering the Holocaust' in the Historical/Cultural category.
