Cinco De Mayo is this Wednesday, May 5th. I never need a reason to celebrate, but if you do - this is it.

According to the website History, Cinco de Mayo is a holiday that celebrates the date of the Mexican army’s May 5, 1862 victory over France at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War. For many it also involves celebrating with tacos and tequila. When I say many, I guess I mean me specifically.

We are lucky to have a lot of great spots locally to celebrate the day. Tia Helitas comes to mind, El Potrero, Sagebrush Cantina, Cancun, and I can tell you from personal experience The Corner Bar in Fenton has great fish tacos and so does The Lake Inn in Lapeer. If you are looking for a great taco salad, Timothy's Pub has one of the best. It's made the old school way, covered in Doritos.

Obviously there are a lot more places that serve authentic Mexican food throughout Genesee County, Lapeer County (and points beyond). What do you recommend? Do you have a go to Mexican restaurant that I should know about? Or even a restaurant that serves great tacos?

Another key component to a proper Cinco De Mayo celebration is chips and salsa. I cannot be the only person who fills up on chips, before my entree is even served (happens every time).

I don't think I am going to be able to wait until Wednesday for a taco. I may start celebrating Cinco De Mayo today with a fish taco from Tia Helitas.
