What's Being Built in Grand Blanc Township Michigan?

There has been plenty of chatter around Grand Blanc and Grand Blanc Township with curiosity over what's being built near Grand Blanc Road and Fenton Road. It turns out, it's not a senior living facility.

That's not the only major project nearby, though.

What's being built along Grand Blanc Road?

Since it isn't a senior living facility, if you guessed apartments, you're correct. I spoke with Grand Blanc Township's Planning and Zoning Clerk, Maria Brown, who clarified the new structures will become Grand Summit Apartments being constructed by Triumph Engineering.

So far, it looks like they have around six or seven structures erected with room for plenty more. This is the view from the drive into Thornridge Apartments (below).

So, is this project related to what else is happening across the street in the corn field and along Fenton Road?

What's happening on Fenton Road south of Grand Blanc Road?

At first, I thought a new subdivision was going in along Fenton Road across from the pumpkin patch. Brown assures me that's not the case. Rather, it's a massive easement created to make utility improvements.

I'm sure the neighbors are loving that (sarcasm). This project runs back into the corn field that runs along Grand Blanc Road (across from the new apartments and Brick Street).

Growth is good for our area -- better than the mass exodus that's happened over the last 20 years.

Bonus info, if you're wondering when the Grand Blanc Road widening will be completed, Brown tells me November at the latest, but should be October if the weather cooperates.

A Nostalgic Look Back Inside the Infamous Auker Mansion of Grand Blanc

The big house with the large gates on Belsay Road in Grand Blanc, Michigan has been as mysterious as the man who built the massive 14,000+ square foot home that resembled more of a palace than a Midwest home. The late builder Eldon Auker was known for his creativity and flamboyance on some levels, his mansion reflected every bit of that. With its 20 foot ceilings, majestic staircase, and a 3000 square foot bedroom, the home was a showplace. Sold in 2020, it's hard to know if changes were made to the once amazing estate, but it's exciting to be able to take a little look back in time to what once was.

Michigan's most legendary outlet mall opened in 1986, located just off I-75 approximately halfway between Flint and Saginaw. The mall was originally named Manufacturer's Marketplace/Prime Outlets at Birch Run.

Looking Back at the Last Days of Beloved Playland in Flint, MI

Playland originally started in Flint off Pasadena. Then, in the early 1980s moved toward Grand Blanc at 5290 Dort Hwy in Flint right behind Grand Blanc Township Offices. It was closed for good in 2018.
