The search for a missing Rockwood man has ended tragically after his remains were discovered in northern Michigan.

Disappearance at the Renaissance Festival

Jacob Angeles, 22, went missing over the weekend after attending the Michigan Renaissance Festival in Holly. He was last seen around 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, when he posed for a photo with his mother. The two drove to the event in separate cars.

When Angeles failed to show up for work the following morning, a search began. Oakland County deputies used drones, a helicopter, and K-9 units to scour the area near the Renaissance Festival grounds on Dixie Highway. Security cameras later captured his Jeep leaving the festival, and it was tracked to the I-75 and I-675 area near Saginaw.

Deputies attempted to ping Angeles’ phone every 15 minutes, but it appeared to be shut off. In the days following his disappearance, thousands of people joined online groups to help spread the word and share updates.

Discovery in Crawford County

Last night the search came to a devastating end. Around 11:30 p.m., the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office reported that Angeles’ remains were found in a wooded area. The discovery was made after someone reported an abandoned Jeep Commander in a remote location.

Investigation Continues, Autopsy Pending

The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office said foul play is not suspected, though investigators are still working to determine how Angeles ended up in Crawford County. An autopsy is scheduled for today or tomorrow.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office at 248-858-4950.
